Topic 6 (Bubble Science)

Task 1


Learning Goal and Outcome

  1. Share your experiences and knowledge about bubbles

  2. Understand the science of bubbles

  3. Prepare bubble-making liquid and try out a range of bubble-making challenges

  4. Be able to speak about the above.

  • Wand

  • Pocket of air

  • It has 3 layers in a bubble

  • You need soap to make bubbles

3 Bubbles Challenge

  1. Bubble Caterpillar

  2. Cube Shape Bubbles

  3. Carousel Bubble 

Task 2:

Prepare bubble-making liquid following a tried-and-true recipe


Equipment: 

  • a set of scales 

  • 250ml beaker

  • a calibrated syringe

  • a stirring rod


Ingredients: 

  • table sugar

  • glycerol

  • kitchen detergent

  • Water



Method (what to do): 

  • Fill the 250 ml beaker half full, that is, measure 125 mls water.

  • Weigh 5 grams of sugar, stir into the water until the sugar is dissolved.

  • Measure 3 mls of glycerol - add to the water solution.

  • Measure 10 mls detergent - add to the water solution. 

  • Stir the contents in the beaker so all ingredients are thoroughly mixed through.

Outcome:

It was hard  i had to blow light on the wand to make a good bubble.
